The Auckland District Breakdown Train.
Built as Aa1480, NIMT Dining Car in 1916.
Rebuilt as Aa1480, NIMT Sleeping Car in 1917-18.
Rebuilt as Ea1979 as a breakdown gang amenities car, by removing half the sleeping berths, and fitting alcove type tables and seating.
Ea1973 was permanently coupled to Ez2110, which was converted from a Z-13
by fitting a mobile workshop and stores facilities.
The service spent a much of its time, at the ready, in its own siding next to A Box in Auckland.
WW Stewart recorded it with Ja1275, earning its keep at Mercer,
during the floods of 1953.
The old car developed quite a hump back over time.
A feature which has been faithfully captured in the model.
